We are moving!

We need to let everyone know that we will be moving our next meeting(Aug. 11th) to the Roanoke County public library headquarters on Electric Road. The time will be the same(6:30p.m.), and I hope everyone will be made aware of the change. We recently found out that our previous meeting location will be closed that whole week. I will include directions, please pass the word along. The address is:

From North (Lexington/Staunton):
From I-81 South take Exit 143 onto I-581 (becomes US 220 south). Take the 419/Franklin Road (Electric Road) exit. Turn right. Follow 419/Electric Road for about 2.5 miles. Cross 221/Brambleton Avenue. Library is on the left across from the Post office.

From East (Vinton/Lynchburg):
Take US 460 west (or Route 24 if coming from Vinton) to I-581. I-581 becomes US 220 south. Take the 419/Franklin Road (Electric Road) exit. Turn right. Follow 419/Electric Road for about 2.5 miles. Cross 221/Brambleton Avenue. Library is on the left across from the Post office.

From South (Rocky Mount/Martinsville/
Danville):
Take US 220 north to the 419/Franklin Road exit. Turn left at the light. Follow 419/Electric Road for about 2.5 miles. Cross 221/ Brambleton Avenue. Library is on the left across from the Post Office.

From West (Blacksburg/Wytheville):
Take I-81 north to Exit 141 in Salem, turn right onto Route 419. Follow 419 south for approximately 8 miles. Library is on the right across from the Post Office.

Mr President, how do you feel about the Constitution?

In November of 2005, Republican Congressional leaders filed into the Oval Office to meet with President George W. Bush and talk about renewing the controversial USA Patriot Act.

"Mr. President," one aide in the meeting said. "There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution."

"Stop throwing the Constitution in my face," Bush screamed back. "It's just a ***damned piece of paper!"

In a September 2001 interview, Democrat Barack Obama complained that the Constitution is a charter of “negative liberties.” The liberties he refers to are not the liberties of the people, but the liberty of the government, which he feels should be freed ["from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the constitution"] and empowered to do more on its citizens’ behalf.
"I think we can say that... uh ..uh... the Constitution reflected a(sic) enormous blind spot in this culture that carries on until this day.. and... and ahh.. and that the framers had that same blind spot... I.. I don't think that the two views are contradictory to say that, it was a remarkable political document.. ah.. that paved the way for where we are now and to say that it ..ah.. it also, ah...rep..reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues until this day."

With leaders that treat our Constitution as a road block for their personal or political agenda, it is no wonder that Constitutional education is not a priority for children or adults these days. Our next regular meeting(8-11) will begin a series of "classroom" lessons on the principles of freedom as given to us by the Founding Fathers. A book called "The 5000 Year Leap" is highly recommended reading and will be the basis for these lessons. Make plans to attend and further your understanding of what it means to be an American.

Update from the Tea Party

The Tea Party went great. The people at www.roanoketeaparty.com did a wonderful job of hosting this event. Thank you for the invitation.
The group distributed hundreds of Constitutions, free DVDs, mission statements, and legislative fliers. We also got to talk to many patriots who want to do something about what is going on in Richmond and Washington. With estimates of 1000+ people in attendance, it is easy to see that "We the People" are tired of the antics. Through efforts like this, this group will help awaken the sleeping giant, and educate them on their republic and how to protect it. There will be some pictures included so take a look. Thank you to all that came out, and thank you to the all the hard workers distributing information. We look forward to seeing you at the next Tea Party and other public events.
